The Malebolge lies in the eighth circle: Fraud. The Malebolge divides fraud into different levels and punishments. Many demons terrorize the souls that live here in an unrelenting pursuit, eager to torment them until they go hollow.
The Malebolge consists of ten mini-circles:
- Panderers and Seducers - where demons thrash furiously at these sinners with notched whips.
- Excessive Flattery - drowns souls in pools of excrement.
- Simoniacs - A burial ground where souls are cooked below the surface, with only their feet protruding above ground.
- Sorcerers - location of the demonic Sisters of Fate, where demons consume those whose heads are turned backwards.
- Grafters and the Malebranche - sinners bask in pools of burning tar, tortured by the infamous Malebranche demons for their political corruption, led by Malacoda.
- Hypocrites - Cloaked in robes made of lead, these souls can barely walk as they constantly feel the poison seeping into their veins. They are highly combustible. The demon Legassa occupies this wasteland.
- Thieves - Hidden underground, the circle of thieves punishes these sinner within complete darkness. Surrounded by banshees, this labyrinth is incredibly deadly. If a soul accidentally looks upon a bansheeís face with light, they will anger the demon into a fit of rage.
- Corrupted - The hottest of all circles, these charred souls burn within pools of lava. The great demon-dragon Cacus flies around the central spire. mutilating and consuming them.
- Schism - Inside the tower lies a gladiator pit, housing the most skilled demon of all: Muramasa. Trained in the ways of the samurai, Muramasa slices all the souls he encounters into tiny pieces relentlessly.
- Falsifiers - The last point of Fraud, these souls are caged and isolated. They suffer from the worst diseases, viruses and plagues the world's ever known.
